Achieving Survey Grade Accuracy with Datumate & DJI Phantom 4 RTK Drones

P4 RTK DroneDatumate customers can now achieve high accuracy automatically using DJI Phantom 4 RTK Drones and reduce or eliminate totally the labor work of ground control points (GCP) placement in the field.

Datumate support of RTK drones and the latest release from DJI of Phantom 4 RTK drone, with the 20-megapixel camera, enable customers to achieve 2-5cm accuracies without GCPs. For customers that need even higher accuracies and want to use GCPs, only a small amount of GCPs are needed now when using RTK drone.

Up until a few months ago, integrated RTK systems were available only on fixed wing drones. The latest release from DJI with built in RTK system (at an accessible price) + Datumate Solutions, provide construction and surveying professionals automation and accuracies out of the box.

WHAT IS RTK?

Real-time kinematic (RTK) positioning is a satellite navigation technique used to enhance the precision of position data derived from satellite-based positioning systems (global navigation satellite systems, GNSS) that are now mounted on a drone such as DJI Phantom 4 RTK. 
RTK drone configuration can come with a physical base station or a virtual one to which the user can be connect through a GSM (mobile phone using e.g. 4G) network. When using the RTK drone, the camera positions are calculated in real time in addition to the image processing step which leads to more accurate results as well as reduced processing time.

With our RTK drone support, these processes can go even faster and be more accurate. With the new release our customers have processed jobs with RMS (Root Mean Square) error of only 1.5cm in the X axis, 1.7cm on the Y axis, and 3.8cm on the Z axis. This level of accuracy enables them to further rely on drone data and achieve a completely automated process.
