The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) is a bipartisan infrastructure package that was signed into law on November 15, 2021, by President Joe Biden. The bill aims to invest $1.2 trillion over eight years to improve and modernize America’s infrastructure, including roads, bridges, public transportation, airports, ports, waterways, broadband internet, and more.

The IIJA is the largest federal investment in infrastructure in decades, and it is expected to create millions of jobs and boost economic growth. The bill includes funding for a wide range of infrastructure projects, including:

  • $110 billion for roads, bridges, and major projects
  • $66 billion for passenger and freight rail
  • $65 billion for broadband internet
  • $55 billion for water infrastructure, including clean drinking water and wastewater systems
  • $39 billion for public transit
  • $25 billion for airports
  • $17 billion for ports and waterways

The IIJA was the result of months of negotiations between Democrats and Republicans in Congress, and it received support from a wide range of stakeholders, including labor unions, business groups, and environmental organizations.
