DatuBIM offers unmatched, automated, and generic support for Local Coordinate Systems (LCS)
Datumate is excited to announce automated support for local coordinate systems (LCS) in DatuBIM, our Construction Data Analytics platform. DatuBIM customers can now enjoy using accurate 3D site models referenced to their local coordinate system without the need for costly hardware or any additional software like converter tools. DatuBIM’s LCS feature is a genuinely generic solution that works regardless of the surveying hardware used to measure ground control points and is suitable for Datumate’s global customer base.
Local Coordinate Systems – the status quo
Planners, surveyors, and project managers often use local coordinate systems for construction projects. For good reasons, they avoid mistake-prone scale factors, minimize map projection distortion, circumvent grid revisions, and keep a site’s coordination dataset to a more manageable size. In addition, the use of LCS is obligatory in the case a national grid is outdated and suffers from poor accuracy.
While local ground-based coordinate systems are becoming more widely used than ever, it is remarkable that construction technology is still lagging. Currently, very few systems support local coordinate systems that can be used integrally with a mapping system. Also, existing solutions, which of course request to mark ground control points on the images, rely on restrictive integration with costly GNSS hardware and software providing LCS calibration files in a proprietary format.
Local Coordinate Systems – the DatuBIM way
New developments for DatuBIM follow simple rules: make our customers more productive, avoid unnecessary costs, and play nicely with as many third-party systems as possible. That’s why we introduced automated, generic, and independent support for local coordinate systems with DatuBIM.
DatuBIM’s LCS feature is entirely self-sufficient. It ends the customers’ dependency on any GNSS system or expensive hardware that is used instead of simple marks on the ground.
Currently, DatuBIM is the only solution available on the market to deliver LCS in an automated way. With the identification of a site using LCS, Datumate’s patent-pending technology will automatically place the ground control points (GCPs) on the survey flights’ image set and align them with the images. Once GCPs have been marked on the images, DatuBIM will detect the local coordinate transformation automatically with a proprietary algorithm and apply it to each survey flight that is processed.
And as always, DatuBIM will save you time, over and over again. When operating an LCS in DatuBIM, you can run it with Datumate’s unique auto-georeferencing capability. Therefore, the process of marking GCPs is done only once for a site. All subsequent flight surveys reference themselves automatically to the previous flight.
